NVIDIA Turbo-Charges Performance of GeForce 7800 GTX.

Following the successful releases of the GeForce 7800 GTX and GT graphics processing units (GPUs) as well as recent introduction of the GeForce 6800 GS, NVIDIA Corp. on Monday unveiled its top-of-the-range GeForce 7800 GTX 512, which promises to become this year’s highest performing gaming solution.

The new GeForce 7800 GTX 512 graphics cards not only come equipped with 512MB of high-speed GDDR3 memory that operates at 1700MHz, but also features visual processing unit working at 550MHz. The new chip is a slightly redesigned version of the GeForce 7800 GTX also known as the G70 graphics chip that is capable of operating at high clock-speeds. Several makers of graphics cards are expected to offer boards with accelerated specifications.

“The large performance gains were accomplished by both raising the clocks and tuning the fabrication process to speed up data paths inside the chip, and by tuning the printed circuit board (PCB) design,” NVIDIA explained.

Naturally, the new part from NVIDIA supports Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0, multi-GPU SLI technology, High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting effects, NVIDIA PureVideo technology, advanced antialiasing algorithms, and much more.

NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 512 GPU-based graphics cards are available immediately at major online retailers and from leading add-in card partners such as ASUS, BFG, EVGA, Gainward, MSI, Point of View, and XFX. NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 512 GPUs are also powering the fastest gaming systems from some of the world’s leading systems builders including ABS, Alienware, Axcelerate Computers, Biohazard PC, Cyberpower, Falcon Northwest, Hypersonic, iBuyPower, Overdrive PC, PC Club, Polywell, Velocity Micro, Vicious PC, and Voodoo PC.

Plantronics Versa: Wireless Earbuds

There is nothing uncool about this wireless earbuds concept from Plantronics called Versa. The design uses a miniaturized base outfitted with Bluetooth to connect to your cellphone, and RF to connect to the actual earbuds. Plantronics claims this technology is only “a year or two out from being ready to launch,” but don’t chuck your old buds just yet. The design comes in three styles: long, slim and metallic for men; a chrome necklace design for women; and a universal necklace/clip combo with colored anodized aluminum for teens. The design firm One & Co, creators of the Nike Triax and the PalmOne Zire 72, first unveiled this concept a few months back — but no one seems to have noticed until now!

Moto PEBL Reviewed (Verdict: It’s Pretty)

Here is the latest version of the four letter word mobile phone from Motorola. It’s a pretty average phone, not too many features, works on the GSM network from T-Mobile, has an average camera, Bluetooth, etc. But the big kicker with this phone is the design. The PEBL has a very round, sexy, organic shape that fits well in the hand and pocket. It is a black phone with a monochrome single line display on the outside and a full color LCD screen on the inside. This phone will run about $200 after all is said and done with rebates, which may be a little high for the feature set, but the RAZR was ‘spensive and that didn’t stop anybody.

(Super) Mario Bros. question mark and POW block speakers

We’re going to have to try our damnedest to resist dangling these speakers from the ceiling and jumping up to hit them in the hopes of flipping all our enemies on their backs, or obtaining a fire flower or 1-up mushroom. (We hear we only get one life in this game anyway.)

Vertu Channels Racecar For Phone

Now that so many cellphones are being targeted to women, luxury phone company Vertu decided to go back to its roots and make a manly phone. The Motorsport limited edition (only 997 phones available) takes its cues from the company’s participation in the Porsche eMichelin Supercup and Porsche Infineon Carrera Cup Asai. Say that 5 times fast why dontcha? The phone is black and made from liquid metal alloy and oil resistant leather, so it’s pretty tough to mess up. And the sapphire crystal screen could show Apple a thing or two about what it means to be scratch-resistant. It includes the brand’s dedicated concierge service as well as tri-band (GSM 900,1800 and 1900) with Bluetooth and modem support. Oh, and to make sure it’s worth the $5700 price tag, the company claims it actually ran the damn thing over with a racing car. Eat the rich!
